How to play Afterglance: rules and observation tips
Everything you need to play Afterglance, plus tips to get a better score.
How to play
- A street with shops, people and cars appears for a few seconds, with a countdown. Look at everything: you're the witness.
- When time is up (or when you press Done), the camera clicks: colours, signs, people and cars vanish and only a pencil sketch of the buildings is left.
- Then come six questions, one at a time, with no time limit: five with four answers (colours, numbers, things) and a last one, What changed?
- In What changed? the street comes back in colour with exactly one difference: something has gone, changed colour or moved. Tap it and confirm.
- Your score is how many of the six you got right. Seconds you used are your pride: pressing Done early earns no points, but it shows in your result.
- The street gets busier through the week: 3 shops and 20 seconds on Monday, 5 shops and 12 seconds on Sunday, when the change is subtle.
- Colour answers always show the colour's name. In Settings: extended observation (+50% time, marked ⏳ in your result) and fewer flashes. Pinch or use + and − to zoom while looking; on a keyboard, 1–4 answer and Enter goes on.
Strategy: look like a witness
Sweep in a fixed order. Eyes jump to whatever moves. Instead, walk the street the same way every time: roofs and windows left to right, then shop fronts, then the pavement, then the road. A fixed route means nothing gets skipped.
Tie every colour to its owner. Questions never ask which colours there were; they ask whose colour it was. Say it in your head: red bakery, yellow florist, blue door. A pair sticks far better than a loose colour.
Count in groups. Two cars, three at the bus stop, one dog. Small numbers you count once are remembered; things you only glanced at are not.
Note what is odd. A balloon, a cat in a window, a bike by the bench: unusual details are what questions and changes love.
Use the sketch. During the questions the pencil sketch keeps the buildings and windows in place: picture the street back onto it before answering.
Sharing shows one square per question (🟩 right, 🟥 wrong) and how long you looked (👀 14s/18s), never the questions or the answers.
